Take a seat, bacon.
While Dunkin’ Donuts has been busy adding bacon, bacon, and more bacon to its breakfast menu, McDonald’s is taking a completely different approach. After bringing back all-day breakfast, the Golden Arches is now testing out chicken with its morning meals.
Spotted at locations in New England as early as February and more recently in upstate New York near Albany, the brand’s new chicken sausage is currently in the testing phase as a healthier alternative to traditional pork sausage. It will be offered in the Egg McMuffin as an extra option to the standard bacon, ham, and pork sausage protein choices, Brand Eating reports.
Though it might sound weird to some, this switch to lighter fare makes sense. It follows the brand’s efforts to offer egg whites back in 2013, toss kale-heavy salads back in February, and add Greek yogurt to smoothies earlier this year.
